Saturday January 27th

Bon Swa!

Today was our last day in Haiti. It was an early morning with breakfast at 0730. We hopped on the boat at 0800 and made our way to Les Cayes. After the hour long boat ride, we had made it to the mainland and got in our van to drive to Port au Prince.

Halfway through our drive we stopped at a bakery with Ailish. The bakery is owned by an American. It was very modern and Americanized inside. They had smoothies and paninis. We grabbed food quick there and then continued on our way.

Another couple hours into the drive we stopped again on the side of the road where there was a lot of street art. We bought some souvenirs and gifts there. The artwork was amazing. It covered the sidewalk and the fence all the way down the street. Handmade paintings of all sizes on canvas. It was incredible.

After checking out the artwork we headed up the “hill” I mentioned in one of the first blogs. We got up to Lance’s house around 1745 and settled down and washed up. By 1845 we headed out to dinner. The restaurant was very fancy. We had pasta and it was delicious. We got back to Lance’s house around 2130 and went straight to bed.

Tomorrow we will be up early to catch our flight home. We will be flying to New York and then catch our connecting flight home to Boston. It has been quite the last two weeks. I can’t believe it’s almost over. We came to Haiti with the goal of leaving all of the supplies for the orphanage and Ile a Vache and implementing projects we had worked on all semester long. It turns out that Haiti gave us so much more than we could ever give it.

Talk to you in Boston.

Kaylene
