 Our Project

Our goal is to create a living document and record of past and current quality-  of-life related infrastructure projects for Ile-A-Vache, Haiti to assist relief organizations and others working to support the island community.

This document will be maintained by undergraduate students attending Massachusetts Maritime Academy, a part of the Academy’s Cooperative Education program.  Students travel and work on Ile-a-Vache for up to 17 days per year to conduct annual assessments of existing infrastructure and development related projects as well as assisting in long term plans for preparation, response and recovery.

Methodology
Perform on-going site assessments coordinated with representatives from the Ile-a-Vache (IAV) Development Group, the EDEM Foundation and other non-governmental and governmental organizations using Disaster Risk Management principles, processes and methodologies developed through various emergency management organizations including The Red Cross, FEMA, CDEMA, CDERA, OAS, USAID, CARICOM and the Canada’s OCIPEP.
Our assessment model will follow these 6 basic guidelines and 4 Phases:

1. Mapping and Metrics
2. Interviews and Surveys
3. Education and Outreach
4. Create and Maintain Project Website
