Day 9

Wednesday January 24th, 2018

Bon Swa!

Our time on Ile a Vache is coming closer to being over. We have only three days left on the island. We are all missing home a little bit, but we are most certainly going to miss the beauty that is on this island.

Today we spent most of out time in Cacor working on the bucket project I mentioned in yesterday’s blog. We had initially planned to use blow torches to make the holes in the buckets to insert the spigot. That is how we had made them stateside. Problems with the blow torch slowed our process immensely so we sought out our resources on the island to find a more efficient way to get it done. We walked over to Bill’s house. Bill is originally from the United States but sends a lot of his time on Ile a Vache where he has built himself a home and workshop. He helped set us up with a drill bit that worked perfectly. We ditched the blow torches and finished the job using the drill. We were able to make well over 100 buckets that now have spigots. These will be delivered to those with the greatest need.

We spent most of the day making the buckets, but when we were done we headed over to Ellie’s place to relax and get a little bit of wifi connection. After Ellie’s we headed back to Vacation Village where we had dinner and washed up for bed.

Tomorrow we will hike over to Madame Bernard for the last time to visit at the orphanage. The orphanage houses many disabled children and is where we coordinated the donation of a year supply of diapers and nutrition supplements. We are planning on a long day. However this is likely our last arduous day on the island.

I look forward to updating you tomorrow. Thanks for reading. Talk to you soon.
