Day 6: Sunday 17 January 2016

Today is Sunday, a relaxing day on the island. We all woke up and had breakfast around 8 AM which consisted of spaghetti, bread, peanut butter, and fruit. It was surprisingly delicious and very filling. We then changed into our bathing suits and headed over to a beach just over the hill from Vacation Village. We were the only ones on this beach! One of the cadets, Mike, found a scorpion in the sand which freaked some of us out but we all got into the crystal clear waters without even thinking about it. The water was absolutely perfect, and refreshing. We were greeted by someone who offered us coconuts. We were able to watch the guy climb the tree, get the coconut, and cut it open with a machete. It was very good. We did a little more swimming and then retired back to Vacation Village for lunch around noon. That night, we met with Capt. Lennon to discuss the plan for the ship offload in the morning. We went over the entire plan and once everyone was comfortable with it, we walked back to Vacation Village. It was Laura’s 21st birthday, and our translator, Thiery, gave her a birthday shout out on his radio station.
