Day 5: Saturday 16 January 2016
Today we had an early breakfast, got our waters filled and hit the road on our way to Port Morgan. Once there, we met up with Capt. Lennon and began our 1 hour and 30 minute hike to Madame Bernard. It was once again a beautiful, sunny day. Once at Madame Bernard we met with Ailish and began working on cleaning out a storage container. This container was going to be used to store the 1300 diapers, and other various soccer equipment that we had collected and loaded on the TS Kennedy. Cleaning out the container was a team effort, and everyone pitched in a helping hand to get the job done. We finally finished around 2, and headed over to a local restaurant to get a soda. After a little break, Ailish took us on a tour of the orphanage. We were able to meet the kids and play with them for about half an hour. Then it was time to head back to Vacation Village. She told us we would be taking a “Tap-Tap” back in place of walking, we were excited to skip the walk! A Tap-Tap is a motorcycle with a carriage hooked up to the back. We fit 6 of us in the back of one of these tap-taps. It was very cramped! Capt. Lennon along with another student were able to get on the back of 2 other motorcycles. It was a bumpy ride in the Tap-tap all the way back to vacation village. That night we all slept well after a hard day’s work.
