Hi everybody! My name is Douglas Aldrich, and I come from Prospect, CT. I am a First Class Facilities Engineering cadet at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and I was selected to travel down to Ile-A-Vache, Haiti for the Winter of 2014.

I chose this internship because I wanted to travel and explore other cultures. I was extremely interested in it from the first time that I had heard about it, and when I attended the information meetings, I found that I wanted to go even more. When I had gone on Sea Term in my freshman year, I loved being able to talk with the locals, visit different areas of interest, and try out the local cuisine; these all have a definite spot on my "To-Do List" while down in Haiti. Also, while I'm down in Ile-A-Vache, I'm looking forward to expanding my knowledge to different areas of engineering practices, and to be able to gain some insightful hands-on applications of that knowledge.

While down there, I am going to be helping out improving well-digging equipment, transporting tools to a specific location on the island, and also helping the locals build a sawmill. I am very excited to pursue these opportunities, and I will definitely keep you updated on how things work out!
